Authentication based on the works of Shaykh Ahmad Shakir & Shaykh Muhammad Nasir Ad-Din Al-Albani - Compilation and Translation: Dr Nabil Aliouane
Ibn Kathir's exegesis holds a unique and undisputed place among Quranic commentaries. Over the centuries, Muslims have adopted it as the main reference, perhaps surpassing even the exegesis of At-Tabari, considered the Mother of exegeses but less accessible to the common believers. The uniqueness of Ibn Kathir's work lies in its unprecedented methodology, placing it at the forefront of references in this field.
The Summary of Ibn Kathir's exegesis is more than just a summary, in the sense that we have sought to present a concise and structured formulation of Ibn Kathir's work, relying on solid scientific foundations and the works of recognized scholars. The methodology can be summarized in a few points;
1- We relied on The Authentic of Ibn Kathir's Exegesis which resembles the authentication works of Shaykh Ahmad Shakir, Shaykh Muhammad Nasir Ad-Din Al-Albani, and Shaykh Muqbil Ibn Hadi Al-Wadri'i.
2- From this established base, we extracted the most concise and complete formulation of the meaning retained by Ibn Kathir for each verse. Whether based on his explanation of the verse or on what he reports from the Companions and their successors. The work that served as the foundation for this work - which we consider the best work in the field - is Taysir ar-Rahmân ar-Rahim fi Ikhtisar Tafsir Ibn Kathir. It generally avoids the trap of excessive conciseness and that of "superfluous" development.
3- We have retained from the verses and hadiths mentioned by Ibn Kathir only what is necessary for understanding the meaning of the verse, and we have removed all examples.
4- Ibn Kathir's exegesis is not based on the reading of Hafs but of Abdu 'Amr. Therefore, we have indicated the verses where the reading was different and could imply a meaning other than the one Ibn Kathir chose.
5- There are a few rare verses that Ibn Kathir did not explain. In this situation, we have offered the reader a concise formulation of the exegesis of Ibn Jarir al-Tabari.
