Description
Commentary on the Epistle Aspects of the Ignorance Era (Charh Masâ'il Al Jâhiliyyah), by Sheikh & Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Abd Al-Wahhâb (1115H - 1206H), by Sâlih Ibn Fawzân Al Fawzân
Indeed, it is essential to know evil in order to protect oneself from it and to warn against it, as the poet says:
"I did not learn evil for the sake of evil, but to protect myself from it. He who does not know evil will eventually fall into it." How wise is the saying of the one who said: "How can one protect oneself if he does not know what he should protect himself from?" Furthermore, 'Umar ibn Al Khattâb, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "The rope of Islam will not be untied, fiber by fiber, as Islam grows in one who does not know (the practices) of the pre-Islamic era. Moreover, knowing the practices of that era also helps to understand the virtues of Islam, as the poet says: "The opposite shows the good of its opposite AND it is through their opposite that things are clarified."
This work by Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab, may Allah have mercy on him, is of great importance for both the general public and students of religious sciences. It mentions the practices and beliefs of the people of the pre-Islamic era, the Jahiliyyah, against which the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) opposed. It is accompanied here by an explanation given by Sheikh Sâlih Ibn Fawzân Al Fawzân, based on classes he gave at the mosque and which were transcribed and organized by some students. This work was presented to the Shaykh, who deemed it appropriate to have it published after reviewing and revising it. We ask Allah the Most High to make it beneficial. He is indeed All-Hearing and answers prayers.
Muhammad Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab
Muhammad Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab (1703-1792) was a prominent Muslim scholar and theologian who lived in the Najd region, in present-day Saudi Arabia. He is best known for being the founder of the religious movement called Wahhabism, a strict and conservative interpretation of Islam that emphasizes monotheism and rejects religious practices that may be considered as worship of saints or idols.
Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab studied Islamic jurisprudence and theology with various scholars before developing his own religious doctrine, which was later adopted by the Saudi tribe of Al-Saud. This alliance between Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab and the Al-Saud led to the creation of the first Saudi state in 1744, which later became modern Saudi Arabia.
Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab wrote several works on Islamic theology and jurisprudence, including "The Nullifiers of Islam," which is considered one of his most important works. His teachings had a significant impact on the spread of Islam in the region, as well as on the development of Wahhabism, which has become a major religious and political force in the Muslim world.
