The Messenger of Allah was born in Mecca on the 12th of Rabi' al-awwal, the year of the elephant. His father's name was Abd-Allah ibn Abd al-Muttalib al-Hashimi and his mother was Amina Bint Wahab. At that time, Mecca was filled with idols that the Arabs worshipped. When the Prophet's mother (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave birth to him, a light illuminated the house and the palaces of Syria. When he was born, his grandfather took him to the Ka'ba, invoked ALLAH, and thanked Him. He chose the name Mohammed for him.
